Everton want to keep Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City this season.

After attracting attention on a season-long loan move from Man City in August last year, the 30-year-old playmaker quickly set about reviving his career at Everton.

However, a recent report in The Athletic confirmed that the Toffees have no intention of triggering the £50m permanent buy option built into his loan deal.

But despite this solid financial position, the atmosphere at Hill-Dickinson Stadium remains overwhelmingly optimistic.

Club bosses are reportedly very confident that a revised agreement can be reached to keep the England international on Merseyside for the foreseeable future.

Grealish got off to a great start under manager David Moyes, instantly boosting Everton’s creativity and forming a formidable attacking force.

Unfortunately, his remarkable comeback was brutally interrupted in January when a stress fracture in his left foot effectively ended his career.

Given his ongoing injury layoffs and the ever-looming threat of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR), committing to a flat fee of £50m for the 30-year-old represents a financial risk that Everton’s board definitely does not want to take.

Furthermore, incorporating his reported £300,000-a-week wage into the club’s permanent wage structure would require careful handling.

But Everton’s top brass are playing a strategic waiting game. Grealish enters the final year of his contract at the Etihad next season, making Man City increasingly desperate to wipe his hefty salary off their books.

Everton have a lot of influence on the board as few other clubs are willing to sign injured players with huge wage demands.

Sources say the Merseyside outfit are preparing to offer a significantly reduced permanent transfer, either a more manageable £15m to £20m deal, or a new loan deal for the 2026/27 season.
