The Hammers are currently in the relegation zone, but there is one player who continues to shine in the darkness of the London Stadium, Crisencio Somerville.

According to a report from Football Insider, Unai Emery’s side have their sights firmly set on signing Somerville when the summer transfer window opens, in a bid to capitalize on West Ham’s precarious league position.

Somerville has performed well for West Ham this season.

Since joining from Leeds United in August 2024 for a fee in excess of £25m, the 24-year-old has evolved into a key attacking player.

West Ham have been inconsistent across the board this season under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, but Somerville has been a revelation on the left.

With seven goals in 27 appearances in all competitions, his directness, speed and creative output have been a rare brilliance, and he has single-handedly kept the East London club’s faint hopes of survival alive on more than one occasion.

For a progressive, attack-minded side like Aston Villa, injecting Somerville’s flair up front would be a very attractive proposition as they look to further strengthen their European ambitions.

Aston Villa move depends on West Ham’s future

Aston Villa’s pursuit will largely depend on whether West Ham take the lead in May.

Financial experts and insiders have suggested that if the Hammers were to be relegated to the Championship, it could trigger a mass exodus of teams to make ends meet and comply with financial constraints.

Somerville is currently worth around £26 million, but his asking price could drop significantly if West Ham move down the Premier League, making him a potential bargain for the Midlands club.

However, Villa cannot afford to give the coveted winger a free run.

They face incredibly stiff competition for his services. Domestic rivals including Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Bournemouth and Brentford are all monitoring the situation closely.
