  • Sancho to leave United on free transfer
  • Bruno Fernandes delighted with Harry Maguire’s new contract

Manchester United will not take up Jadon Sancho’s contractual option and will instead allow him to leave the club for free this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Sancho to leave United on free transfer

The 26-year-old spent most of his career on loan at Old Trafford, most recently joining Premier League rivals Aston Villa for the 2025/26 season.

However, the move to the Midlands did not pay off, and he started just eight games in the top flight, with his only goal coming in the Europa League.

Sancho, who is on £200,000-a-week wages, has a one-year option on his contract, according to Capology, but Romano says the player and the club have agreed not to extend his current contract, which is due to expire this summer.

This would mean United would no longer receive compensation for his services and the player would likely be forced to take a pay cut with his new employer, but it appears to be in the best interest of both parties.

“The Jadon Sancho chapter is over for Manchester United.

“Sancho will be free at the end of the season, but Man United will not sign him to a new contract. This is not a new contract, but we have extended Sancho’s contract for another season, with an option to trigger if we wish to sell him for a profit.”

“However, Man United do not want to exercise their option and instead waive another season’s high salary, release him on a free transfer and accept defeat.

“There is interest in Sancho not only from Italy but also from Borussia Dortmund.”

Bruno Fernandes delighted with Harry Maguire’s new contract

Bruno Fernandes hopes Manchester United fans’ desire for “fresh meat” will be satisfied this summer, but stressed the importance of locking down mainstays like Harry Maguire during what will be a period of change.

“I think Harry will be here for a long time,” Fernandez told the Men in Blazers Media Network. “I always say it plainly, but people like fresh meat.

“When you eat the same meat for a long time, you start wanting something new, and it’s the same with soccer.

“You have the same players and people want to change them, but when you change them and it doesn’t work out, you want them back, and that’s always the case.

“People want fresh meat, they want new names, they want excitement, they want to see different people in their shirts, and that’s normal and I think H handled that very well.

“This recognition from the club is well-deserved, as he is a very important figure for us at many moments, a very important person for the team and the dressing room.

“Losing someone with his experience and voice in a season where things are changing will be different. But we still need some pillars to stay and we need to show what we need to change to be more successful.”
