Liverpool have been unlucky with injuries this season, but it got even worse against PSG on Tuesday night.

Alexander Isak missed most of the season due to injury and returned to the starting lineup on Tuesday, but as soon as the Swede was reinstated, another tragic fate struck.

With the score at 0-0 in the first half of the match, Hugo Ekitike suffered a painful blow and had to be stretchered off the pitch.

What happened to Hugo Ekitike vs PSG?

This game marked the first time that all of Liverpool’s summer signings – Ekitike, Isak, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkes and Jeremy Frimpong – started in the same match.

Sadly for Arne Slot, it didn’t last long. The ball was played to the striker inside PSG’s half, but he fell awkwardly without making contact and was unable to get back up.

Liverpool’s medical team rushed onto the pitch to help the big-money forward, but he required further assistance as he was carried off the pitch on a stretcher.

Ekitike was quickly substituted, replaced by Mo Salah, who strangely did not start the match.

How much can you miss Ekitike?

Although official confirmation of Ekitike’s injury is yet to be revealed, initial predictions and prognosis have been released.

Dr Rajpal Bhullar, a keen football fan, said on social media that things could go very badly for the Liverpool striker.

“Unfortunately, Ekitike’s injury appears to be a classic Achilles tendon rupture extrusion mechanism,” he began.

Dr. Buller also revealed how long the France international will be out, saying: “Given that elite footballers return to competitive play for seven to nine months, the time to return to pre-injury level will be even longer.”

If that prediction is true, it will be a series of cruel events for the forward.

Not only will Ekitike not play again this season, he will also miss this summer’s World Cup. The only good news for Liverpool in all of this is that Isak will at least defend himself.
