Nico Schlotterbeck has been heavily linked with a move from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

However, the German international has fulfilled his commitment to the club by signing a contract extension. According to Florian Plettenberg, the player’s new contract includes a release clause of between 50 million and 60 million euros, which could be activated by several clubs.

Liverpool boosted by pursuit of Nico Schlotterbeck

Liverpool and Real Madrid could trigger the defender’s clause this summer. However, the termination clause is not valid for the entire transfer window. According to reports, it is scheduled to expire around the time of the World Cup final on July 19th. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to sign the German defender in the summer.

Schlotterbeck has excelled in the Bundesliga and has the qualities to succeed in the Premier League. Liverpool are close to agreeing a new contract with Ibrahima Konate, but no deal has been reached yet. If they are unable to convince the France international to sign a new contract, a German player would be ideal as his replacement.

Manchester United, among other clubs, have been linked with Schlotterbeck.

Real Madrid were also interested in signing the player, but no formal approach has been made yet. The defender definitely wants to compete at the highest level and move to the Premier League, and La Liga could be exciting for him. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop in the coming weeks.

Schlotterbeck is at the peak of his career, making it the perfect time to take on a new challenge. He would want to play for the biggest club in the world and regularly compete for major trophies.
