Anthony Gordon has been left out of the squad for today’s game against Newcastle United, which is sure to intensify transfer speculation.

The Magpies face Bournemouth at St James’ Park, but Gordon will not feature in the game with what has been officially reported as a minor hip injury.

This comes from the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, who admits it doesn’t look too good for Gordon given there have been talks of him considering leaving and Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has said he doesn’t want to use players who aren’t giving 100% to the club…

“Anthony Gordon did not play against Bournemouth 24 hours after Eddie Howe said he could only select players who were fully committed to the club. It doesn’t look good in that context, but the official reason given is a minor hip injury,” Edwards wrote on X.

This follows the Telegraph’s report that Gordon is open to leaving NUFC this summer, with Liverpool and Arsenal named as potential suitors for the England international.

Anthony Gordon is definitely heading for the Newcastle exit

It could just be Gordon’s injury that Newcastle decided not to risk, but the timing is never ideal.

The 25-year-old is an important player for Howe’s side and losing him would be a huge blow, especially after the Alexander Isaac saga that continued all summer last year.

It’s easy to imagine Gordon being good enough for the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, and it’s easy to imagine that other clubs could be in the race to sign him.

For example, we were recently informed that Manchester City are also among suitors for Gordon, while Christian Falk has reported that Bayern Munich’s interest in the former Everton youngster is genuine.
