  • Reds confident of keeping midfielder at Anfield

Dominik Szoboszlai is once again in the spotlight at Liverpool, but this time it’s not just about his performances on the pitch.

The Hungarian captain addressed speculation surrounding a potential new contract at Anfield and revealed that while negotiations continue behind the scenes, his main focus remains firmly on football.

Speaking after Liverpool’s dramatic 2-1 win over Everton in the latest Merseyside derby, the 25-year-old midfielder admitted there has been little visible progress in negotiations so far.

However, his tone sounded calm rather than worried. There is no immediate pressure on Liverpool as his current contract runs until the summer of 2028, but it is thought the club are keen to secure the long-term future of one of their most influential players.

Szoboszlai is Liverpool’s star this season

Szoboszlai has been one of Liverpool’s brightest lights in what has been a frustrating season for the defending Premier League champions.

Although the team’s title defense fell short of expectations, the Hungarian midfielder has consistently put in strong performances, contributing goals, assists and energy from midfield.

As reported by Sky Sports, the midfielder spoke about his future:

“I can’t say anything new about the contract situation because there hasn’t been any real progress.
“We have a lot of games left so we’re focused on that.

“Obviously I think I’m here for the long term, but like I’m saying, it’s not in my hands anymore.

“I’ve said it many times, I love being here, I feel completely relaxed.

“We’ve got five games left so after the international break I’m going to rest for some important games and then we’ll see.”

His relaxed demeanor is no surprise. He has several years left on his contract and Liverpool are in a strong negotiating position.

A new contract is likely to focus on improving terms and reflecting his growing importance within the team, rather than resolving any pressing contractual issues.

Liverpool’s long-term plans also play a role here. In order to remain competitive, the club has gradually restructured its midfield over the past few seasons, introducing young and dynamic players.

Szoboszlai is widely seen as the linchpin of that project, along with other key midfield figures.

Securing his future would send a strong message about stability and ambition as the club looks to recover from a disappointing title defence.

The midfielder himself has repeatedly expressed his love for the club and the city.

His recent comments have reaffirmed that he sees a long-term future at Anfield, even though the final decision on contract issues will ultimately rest with club executives and agents.
