  • Liverpool owner approves transfer of Yann Diomande
  • Yann Diomande would be a great signing for Liverpool

Liverpool have officially accelerated their search for Mohamed Salah’s long-term successor, with RB Leipzig’s Yann Diomande emerging as the club’s ‘top target’.

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the 21-year-old winger has risen to the top of Liverpool’s shortlist following unanimous agreement within the club hierarchy.

The Egyptian King is set to leave the club at the end of the season, with the Reds determined to avoid a transition period gap.

Plettenberg reports that concrete talks are already underway with Diomande’s new boss at Roc Nation Sports, suggesting the Reds are laying the groundwork for a blockbuster summer move.

Tracking Leipzig’s star player is more than just a scout’s recommendation. It has the full support of FSG and the Sports Department.

Plettenberg told X that the move was “approved by all decision-makers at LFC”, suggesting the necessary financial package was in place to lure the winger to Merseyside.

But the path to his signature is far from clear. No formal agreement has yet been reached and Liverpool are not in formal negotiations with RB Leipzig.

The German club are understandably reluctant to lose a valuable asset and reportedly want to “adjust his salary and extend his contract.”

Paris Saint-Germain, led by sporting director Luis Campos, are also firmly in the race and have already held meetings with the players’ camps.

Plettenberg updated: “Yan Diomande is currently Liverpool’s top target to replace Mo Salah and this move has been approved by all of Liverpool’s decision-makers.”

“Specific negotiations are ongoing with the new representatives of Roc Nation Sports, but an agreement has not yet been reached and the clubs have not entered into negotiations.

“RB Leipzig want to adjust his salary and extend his contract. PSG, led by Luis Campos, are also in the race and have already met with his agent.”

Yann Diomande would be a great signing for Liverpool

In theory, Diomand presents an ideal fit. Known for his explosive speed, prolific dribbling and sharp finishing from the right, the Ivory Coast international reflects many of the attributes that made Salah an Anfield legend.

At just 21 years old, Diomand has the potential for a decade at the highest level. His ability to cut inside with his left foot and provide both goals and assists will allow Liverpool to maintain their attacking identity post-Salah.

Interest from PSG poses a major threat, but Liverpool’s early move to involve Roc Nation Sports suggests they are confident in their pitch to bring one of Europe’s most exciting talents to the Premier League.
