Liverpool won’t be able to win a silver medal this season, but consecutive wins in the Premier League will give them some breathing space between them and sixth-placed Chelsea, and they might board the Champions League bus again.

There is no doubting the quality of this Liverpool team. Anfield is home to countless elite players. However, whether it applies or not is another matter, and the Reds have been outplayed and outmaneuvered many times over the course of the campaign.

Will Arne Slott keep his job? FSG are notorious for keeping their cards secret, but the intention at this stage appears to be to enter the summer transfer window and have a fresh campaign with last year’s Premier League winners at the helm.

But further changes are afoot, with Mohamed Salah’s expected departure at the end of his contract complicating matters, while Hugo Ekitike is sidelined for the remainder of the campaign with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Liverpool begin signing new winger

Liverpool’s dream target would probably be Bayern Munich’s Michael Oliseh, but the versatile winger is out of reach. Instead, the plan is to sign Yann Diomande, who is already on the radar at RB Leipzig at the age of 20.

Diomande cost £87m to sign and would be the perfect replacement for Salah, but given the circumstances, Liverpool may end up making a showdown this summer.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have begun work on a possible summer move for Bournemouth winger Eli Junior Crupi, who is also being scouted by Manchester United.

Crupi, 19, is an emerging goalscorer with a wide range of skills who would be a welcome addition to a title-challenging club like Liverpool, but it would cost at least £60m to lure him away from the Vitality Stadium.

Ekitike’s injury has exacerbated Liverpool’s lack of top options, and he could be the perfect short-term addition, as well as a long-term investment.

Why Crupi is a better talent than Diomando

Essentially, Diomande and Crupi could work together in Liverpool’s attacking system. Diomand prefers to play on the left, while Crupi bounces between the left wing and a central attacking role and is always effective.

He has been one of the most talented shooters in the Premier League this season and has been hailed as a “deadly and clinical” young forward by journalist Antonio Mango.

Bournemouth acquired a top scorer when they signed the teenager from League Two side Lorient (for £12 million plus bonuses), but the player only got a brief taste of the game at the highest level.

He has already been described as the “new Mbappé” by French colleague Tiemoue Bakayoko, and his directness and quickness suggest he could be Les Bleus’ next sensation.

*Minimum of 8 goals scored

He is currently thriving in the Premier League and has adapted much faster than some of Liverpool’s so-called superstars. Crupi has scored 10 goals in 28 games this season, but has only started 16 of them.

The step up to Anfield is a different kind of equation, but scoring goals is within his wheelhouse and his basic stats suggest he could be a jackpot signing, having missed just three chances and played in a variety of attacking roles.

Diomande may be more dynamic and balanced, which is why he was chosen as the perfect Salah replacement on Liverpool’s right flank. Crupi, on the other hand, was more dedicated in attack, scoring goals and outsmarting opponents.

If the Dutch manager stays, the combination of the two in Liverpool’s attack next season could be amazing for the slot system. This season, the Reds do not have enough width and dynamism in these wingers and this is the main reason for the regression.

However, as we have seen with the likes of Florian Wirths this season, the Premier League can be a tough place from now on and it may take Diomande some time to find his way back into form.

Crupi is already here and developing, and sporting director Richard Hughes’ links with Bournemouth could see Crupi cross the finish line sharply this summer.
