Everton are hoping to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window, with the Friedkin Group currently preparing to sign AZ Alkmaar star Troy Parrott.
Tierno Barry struggles to force his way into David Moyes’ plans
Tierno Barry was signed from Villarreal last summer for £27 million, the Toffees’ eighth-biggest signing of all time, but it was far from the ideal debut for the Frenchman at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Barry has fallen down the table since the end of February and has been used as a substitute for manager David Moyes in the last six Premier League games, with Beto replacing him at centre-forward.
Although Moyes’ side lost 2-1 to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby, Beto scored for the fourth time in the last three games, suggesting Barry could take a break from work to return to the starting XI with five games remaining.
However, the 28-year-old had only scored four goals in the Premier League all season before his recent purple patch, indicating Moyes may need to bring in a more consistent striker in the summer transfer window.
Parrott has scored an astonishing 30 goals in all competitions for AZ Alkmaar this season, and is attracting attention as a member of the Ireland national team, making him a perfect fit.
Troy Parrott scoring record | Appearance | the goal |
Eredivisie | twenty five | 15 |
Conference league qualifying | 10 | 3 |
conference league | 5 | 7 |
KNVB Cup | 5 | 5 |
In fact, the 24-year-old became a national hero after scoring a hat-trick against Hungary to secure Ireland a place in the semi-finals of World Cup qualifying.
Interestingly, TEAMtalk reports that Everton are currently preparing a summer move for Parrott, which could give them an advantage in the race to sign the Ireland international, who is believed to have been a boyhood Toffees fan.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man plays in the Eredivisie but has had a much more impressive run in the league this season than Barry, suggesting he could be an upgrade.
