According to Sky Germany, Sancho has made it clear that he wants to pack up and return to the ultimate safe haven of Borussia Dortmund.

His current loan spell with Aston Villa is due to end at the same time as his contract with Old Trafford, and he will be completely free to negotiate with overseas clubs from January 1.

Will Jadon Sancho return to Dortmund?

Now, a big third stint in the famous black and yellow jersey is starting to look like a very concrete reality.

Sancho’s return to English football simply hasn’t gone according to script.

After joining the Red Devils for a whopping £73 million in 2021, he initially struggled to consistently replicate the elite, world-class form that had made him a superstar in Germany.

This season hasn’t always been a redemptive fairy tale. The 26-year-old was loaned to Aston Villa for the 2025/26 season, making just one goal and three assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.

Due to this impressive figure, there are virtually no expectations that he will extend his stay at Villa Park.

Meanwhile, Man United’s boardroom is hell-bent on finally erasing his reported £300,000-a-week wages from their financial books.

The club decided not to even activate his one-year contract extension option in a desperate attempt to generate transfer funds from his departure.

Signal Iduna Park is the only place where Sancho has truly consistently improved, and despite receiving numerous offers from other clubs around the world, he reportedly strongly prefers Dortmund.

To prove how keen he is to make this happen, he is willing to take a significant pay cut to push this move over the line.

The ball is now firmly in Dortmund’s court. Current head coach Niko Kovac has already given the green light for the winger’s return to the squad, but the final decision will now be taken by senior executives on the board.

Sporting director Ole Book and managing director Lars Ricken are currently considering the pros and cons of bringing him back for a third term.
