        • After Motherwell: Rangers’ failure must follow James Tavanier at Ibrox

Oh Danny Roll, you did a great job with Rangers. You repaired the rubble left by a disastrous first half of the campaign and got the Ibrox team back into contention to win the Premiership title.

The Gers had not lost a league game in 2026 until Motherwell visited Glasgow on Sunday afternoon. They were within reach of winning the league and were ahead of their old farm rivals.

Sadly, Rangers are still not in their best form, and while they’re not completely out of form, it looks like this season is going to be another not-so-great one for the blue side of town.

The two sides are now four points apart and there is not enough time left to turn things around. Not even Mikey Moore could save them over the weekend. It was perhaps a surprise to see him left out of the starting lineup after being introduced as a second-half sub.

Latest information on Mikey Moore’s future with Rangers

While many players have improved under Rolle, Moore is arguably one of the Rangers’ most exciting players of late, and in any case, in 2026.

Prior to the loss to Motherwell, the Spurs loanee had started all but one of the club’s last eight games in the Premiership. During that time, he scored three goals and recorded the only assist.

Admittedly, these are not amazing numbers, but he is still only 18 years old and is still finding his feet in the senior game. Overall this season, he found the net six times. That’s a reasonable number, especially considering he started just five games under the spell of Russell Martin’s bad luck.

However, no matter how many supporters want him back, it still feels unlikely that he will sign a permanent deal during the summer. That could depend on which division Tottenham are placed in next term.

You’d think Moore would be an important asset in English football’s second tier if they were struggling with relegation. If we don’t keep our spirits up, our first team chances may not be that close. Another loan spell at Rangers would be great, but a permanent move seems unrealistic.

Football FanCast’s sources understand that preliminary talks have taken place with a view to a return to Ibrox in the summer, but the player himself has no desire to leave Spurs. The 18-year-old recently said: “I just want to get back to Tottenham and hopefully earn my place in the team.”

Therefore, Ger will need a change.

Rangers could sign new signing Mikey Moore for £5m

How much money Rangers can spend, and who they can actually sign, will likely depend on whether they win next season’s Champions League.

Either way, there is no doubt that this move will be attractive to Hull City’s Joe Gerhart.

As Football Insider reported earlier this month, Gerhardt is thought to be “keen” on a move to Rangers, with the Glasgow side one of the “top candidates” to secure a move.

The deal is rumored to be between £3m and £5m, which is certainly money well spent. After all, he is one of the best players in the second tier of English football and has a similar playing style to Moore.

Hailed as a ‘destroyer’ by Leeds great Marcelo Bielsa, Gerhard coincidentally made his breakthrough into the first team at a similar age.

Moore moved to Spurs when he was 16, while Gerhard was also seen playing for Wigan when he was 16. It’s not quite there yet for the top-level Hull forward, but he’s finally coming of age.

The 23-year-old now has 14 goals in 38 games in the Championship, marking his best return for a country mile in senior football to date.

Interestingly, the two players are also similar in size and playing style. There’s something hustling about the way they play and execute the game.

Gerhardt is 5-foot-9, while Moore is only a fraction of the height at 5-foot-11, and neither is the strongest. However, both players are direct and aggressive running players, with excellent control and skill in maneuvering the ball between defenders.

This season, they completed almost the same number of dribbles per game. Moore completed 1.5 and Gerhardt completed 1.3.

Both have been known as wonderkids since they were similar ages, and while the Rangers loanee will be hoping to reach the top flight sooner than the team’s new transfer targets, Gerhardt would still be a great signing if they can’t bring Moore back.
