Arsenal are willing to consider selling Miles Lewis-Skelly for around £43m this summer, with Atletico Madrid reportedly interested.

The Gunners and Atletico are currently focused on the Champions League semi-finals, with last night’s first leg ending 1-1 in Madrid.

Still, with some doubts remaining over Lewis Skelly’s future, it is possible that the two big teams could meet soon to discuss off-field business.

Spanish newspaper Fichajes have reported that the England international is attracting Atletico’s attention as a potential summer target.

The report adds that Arsenal could be prepared to consider an offer of around £43m for Lewis Skelly, who has fallen down the pecking order this season due to problems with his fit with manager Mikel Arteta’s tactics.

Miles Lewis-Skelly – should Arsenal keep or sell?

Lewis-Skelly is undoubtedly the great talent on this day, but Arsenal have other options at left-back in Riccardo Calafioli and Piero Hincapie.

It could therefore be smart business for the north London giants to cash in on the interest in young top talent such as Lewis Skelly.

If Arsenal were able to shell out £43m for the 19-year-old, it would be a huge ‘pure benefit’ due to the fact that he is an academy product.

In an era of increasingly strict Financial Fair Play regulations, the AFC may feel it is in their best interest to let a promising young home-grown player go, even if some fans may be disappointed to see him leave.

Could Lewis-Skelly change positions?

Another consideration for the AFC is whether Lewis Skelly’s talents could be utilized in a position other than left-back.

A midfield role could work for Lewis Skelly, who has excellent footwork and passing, even if he lacks the work rate or defensive discipline to start regularly as a full-back.
