  • Arsenal could sign Eze 2.0 this summer
  • Could the talented Kostov become Arsenal’s new Eze?

Arsenal are looking for some excitement in their lives after another frustrating display of attack, centering around a controversial penalty decision.

The Gunners faced a tough run on Tuesday when Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich opened with a thrilling nine-goal clash, but neither they nor Atletico Madrid seemed to be in the same open mood as their opponents.

It’s an approach that many have questioned, and one that Andrea Berta may be looking to change by signing new Eberechi Eze this summer.

Arsenal could sign Eze 2.0 this summer

When Mikel Arteta took the decision to leave Eze out of the squad at the early stages of the season, it was certainly questionable.

The Spaniard was clearly not happy with the attacker’s work outside of possession, but it was still the same player who had scored a hat-trick in the North London derby.

In a team full of pragmatism, Eze remains one of the few sparks that can make everything worthwhile. He almost proved it when he hit the post against Manchester City, he showed it again against Newcastle United and would have grabbed the headlines against Atletico Madrid if not for a controversial penalty decision.

Arteta will lament this decision, and perhaps rightly so, but he should also find time to praise Eze. It has become clear in recent weeks that the former Crystal Palace man will play a key role if Arsenal are to get over the line in the Premier League title race.

Thanks in part to Eze’s recent influence, Berta is hitting the transfer market to find a capable repeat player.

In fact, according to Serbian newspaper Sportinjo, relayed by FCInter1908, the Gunners are looking to steal one of Inter’s most exciting targets away from them.

Wonderkid Vasilier Kostov could fly to London “as early as this week” as Berta moves closer to signing, potentially becoming Arsenal’s first signing of the summer.

It is reported that a deal is likely to be reached for him to move to England for a transfer fee of £10 million.

Could the talented Kostov become Arsenal’s new Eze?

At just 17 years old, Kostov may be a player of the future, but that won’t stop Berta from doing anything.

The attacking midfielder could join a number of young stars in North London, including of course Max Dauman, the Premier League’s youngest ever goalscorer.

It’s easy to see why Arsenal would also have their eye on Kostov. The midfielder is versatile enough to step into an advanced role and can play decisively as a deeper playmaker, with Arteta often asking Martin Odegaard to operate in that role.

Como scout Ben Mattinson even suggested Kostov looks like he has “freshly come out of La Masia”, which should be music to Arteta’s ears. Indeed, it would be a huge boon for Arsenal if it meant that his team would get a higher level of technical safety.

In terms of technique and ability to complete line-breaking passes, Eze and Kostov both offer the same threat. Both can attack from long range and both will impact play in deeper roles if given the chance.

Kostov’s numbers in senior football at just 17 years old are nothing short of sensational. The teenager has taken Serbia by storm with Red Star Belgrade and could do the same in north London.

Although he has similar characteristics to Eze in terms of how he breaks down defensive blocks, the Serbian could even be an instant upgrade.

Of course, it’s worth noting that his touches in the box may be limited as he plays less time in the Premier League under Arteta and is expected to play a more disciplined role, but Kostov looks like the entertainer Arsenal have lacked all season. His youthful vitality could bring unexpected changes.
