Newcastle sign Konstantinos Mavropanos
According to reports, the interest from St James’ Park comes at a period of major upheaval for West Ham.
Some senior positions on the board remain vacant following the recent resignation of long-time vice chair Karen Brady.
This off-field uncertainty is also reflected in the precarious situation on the pitch, with the Hammers currently embroiled in a tense relegation battle, two points clear of the drop zone.
According to the newspaper, West Ham are willing to sell the Greek international this summer, while Newcastle, who are planning to rebuild in the summer, are also preparing to sign the player.
Furthermore, Newcastle’s bosses are already confident of the 28-year-old’s eligibility, adding that any move would not depend on Eddie Howe’s future.
Konstantinos Mavropanos’ mixed time at West Ham so far
Mavropanos has had a roller-coaster spell at the London Stadium since joining from Stuttgart in 2023.
Although he has often produced outstanding performances, particularly during his recent resurgence under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, his start to life at West Ham was not the best.
In the 2025-26 season, the Greek centre-back showed his aerial ability and scoring threat, notably scoring twice in a 4-0 win over Wolves in April and equalizing against Manchester City in March.
Contract talks reportedly stalled earlier this season and the defender is said to be interested in a new challenge.
For Newcastle, he represents a high rising target who could eventually provide a consistent partner for Malik Thiaw in the heart of defence.
