  • Manchester United lead race to sign Ederson
  • Manchester United need to strengthen their midfield this summer

Manchester United are currently leading the race to sign Atalanta’s Ederson, ahead of other top clubs such as Arsenal, according to renowned Italian journalist Matteo Moretto.

The 26-year-old Brazilian has been a standout performer in Serie A and is now looking increasingly likely to head to Old Trafford this summer.

Atlético Madrid were previously considered to be the frontrunners, but United’s financial resources and big contract offer have definitely shifted momentum in Atlético’s favor.

Manchester United lead race to sign Ederson

Mollet revealed via Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel that several Premier League teams are showing increased interest.

However, the Red Devils have made the most significant move, reportedly offering a salary that is higher than the current offer from the Spanish side.

“What I can say is that Manchester United are currently the club with the most interest, offering around €4.5 million net per year,” Mollet said.

“Arsenal have also made inquiries, but Ederson is not a priority for them. United seem to have the strongest financial capabilities at the moment.”

Although a personal deal appears to be on the horizon, United still face the challenge of negotiating a transfer fee with Atalanta.

The Italian side are known to be tough negotiators and are expected to demand a hefty transfer fee, likely in the region of £39 million (around €45-50 million), for their midfield engine.

Manchester United need to strengthen their midfield this summer

Ederson’s pursuit comes at a crucial time for Manchester United’s midfield.

After a transition season under manager Michael Carrick, the club is preparing for a major shake-up.

Manuel Ugarte is expected to be sold after failing to solidify his place in the starting lineup, while veteran Casemiro is set to leave the club at the end of this season due to interest from MLS.

With Koby Mainu recently signing a new long-term contract until 2031, United have secured a generation of talent to develop.

However, this departure means United will need to bring in a replacement.

United are reportedly considering signing at least two midfielders to strengthen their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.
