Arsenal are currently preparing a bid for PSV Eindhoven centre-back Jarek Gasiorowski, with the Dutch side reportedly willing to approve the move for around 40 million euros (approximately 3.5 billion yen).
The Gunners will be looking to strengthen their defense this summer, but they did a great job keeping Atletico Madrid at bay in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night, sealing their place in the final with a narrow 1-0 win at the Emirates Stadium.
Manager Mikel Arteta had his preferred centre-back partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba, and the pair recorded 19 defensive actions between them, with Bukayo Saka scoring the all-important winning goal just before half-time.
Legendary manager Arsene Wenger praised Arteta’s last line after the game: “We said before the game that we needed to be strong defensively to get to the final, and tonight we didn’t concede a goal. They played for 45 minutes against a team that absolutely needed goals, but they didn’t give us any chances.
“I think this shows how strong Arsenal are defensively, how disciplined they are, and the limitations of Atletico, who weren’t good enough in the final third.
Arsenal preparing to sign Jarek Gasiorowski
However, Sports Boom reports that Arsenal are reportedly preparing an opening price of 25 million euros (approximately 2.2 billion yen) for PSV star Gasiorowski, with further reinforcements at centre-back on the agenda this summer.
However, it is unclear whether that will be enough to get the deal over the line, with the Eredivisie side hoping to get 40 million euros (approximately 3.5 billion yen) given the importance of the centre-back.
The Gunners are said to be keen to bring in a new long-term partner for Gabriel in case Saliba leaves, with the likes of Brentford, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund potentially competing for the 21-year-old.
Statistically, Arsenal have the best defense in the Premier League this season, conceding just 26 goals, the fewest of any team, but scout Jacek Kulig suggests the PSV defender is one of the continent’s most talented.
The Spaniard has been a key player for PSV this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 26 Eredivisie appearances, with an average of 8.5 points per 90 defensive contributions, the second highest in the squad.
So Gasiorowski could be ready to take the next step with a move to the Premier League, but centre-back is not the only defensive area Arsenal are keen to strengthen.
