Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Casemiro’s future amid speculation that he will remain at Manchester United following his impressive form under manager Michael Carrick.
Carrick’s tenure has led to an upturn in the form of several key players at Old Trafford. In particular, midfielder Koby Mainu signed a new contract until 2031 before scoring the dramatic winning goal against Liverpool.
The 21-year-old England international is back in Thomas Tuchel’s plans ahead of this summer’s World Cup and has started 13 of United’s last 14 Premier League games.
Winger Amad Diallo underlined how happy the players are under the current manager after the win over Liverpool: “Honestly, it’s not the players who will decide who will stay here next season, but what I can say is that everyone is happy to have him as manager. Everyone is with him.”
“He’s a manager who builds good relationships with all the players, so we’re really happy to have him as manager and we’d be happy to have him as manager again next season.”
If appointed to the permanent role, Carrick’s first task could be to find a replacement for Casemiro, who is due to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires this summer.
The Brazilian midfielder announced his decision in January, leaving him with a contract that puts him at the top of United’s annual salary list.

Fabrizio Romano gives updates on Casemiro’s U-turn
Romano took to his YouTube channel to share the disappointing news with United fans who have been chanting “one more year” for the past few weeks.
In fact, the reporter confirmed that there is no possibility of a U-turn and that Casemiro has decided to step down in search of a new chapter.
“I know it’s a sad story, but this is the reality: Casemiro will not stay at Manchester United.
“I know the song ‘One more year of Casemiro’ because Manchester United fans are trying to encourage Casemiro to play one more season, to play in the Champions League, to be part of the project for next season.
“But to be honest, I understand that Casemiro wants to try something different.”
United also said goodbye to club director Sir Dave Brailsford.
The 62-year-old played a key role before and after Sir Jim Ratcliffe completed the minority takeover of the club in February 2024, resulting in his resignation as team principal of the Ineos Grenadiers cycling team.
However, in June last year it was revealed that Mr Brailsford’s role at the club would be reduced as part of a reshuffle that saw him return to his role as sporting director for the entire Ineos group.
A Companies House document published on Thursday confirmed that his departure from United was made official on April 30, and that Mr Brailsford’s role as a director of the club had come to an end.
He was appointed manager on 19 February 2024 and United finished 15th in his only full season at the club, losing in the Europa League final.
United currently sit third in the Premier League table and qualify for the Champions League with three games in hand.
