Aston Villa are in the race to sign Jenny Katamo from Sporting Club this summer and have already received a number of approaches for the attacker.

Aston Villa firmly committed to signing Katamo

The Villains will be targeting immediate Champions League qualification after defeating Nottingham Forest to reach the Europa League final. With rumors persisting that this season could be the last time Morgan Rodgers wears a Villa shirt, the Midlands are looking to change the narrative towards their arrival.

The focus will likely be on attacking star players with or without Rodgers. Villa are said to have already set their sights on the likes of Matthias Soule, who is on the verge of leaving AS Roma, and are also in the race for an exciting winger.

Aston Villa are in the race to sign Katamo from Sporting Club and have received a number of approaches for the winger in the summer transfer window, according to Portuguese correspondent O Jogo.

It remains to be seen whether the Villains are among the clubs to initiate contact, but they are certainly interested and it’s clear why.

Katamo has had an excellent season, scoring 13 goals for the club and five for Mozambique at AFCON, and his current contract has a release clause worth €60m (about £51m).

It’s not a cheap deal, but the release clause option could make for tough negotiations with Sporting and save Villa from a summer of disaster.

Donyell Malen is likely to head to Roma on a permanent deal this summer, which is also a deal that makes perfect sense. Since the Dutchman’s departure, the Villans have been looking for production from the wides.

Katamo could replace Rodgers for £51m

Although Aston Villa are trying to ignore it, it is true that rumors about Rodgers’ future are spreading rapidly. The attacking star appears destined to leave for big money, forcing the Villains to look for a replacement who could arrive in the form of Katamo this summer.

In over 1,000 minutes less, Katamo has scored just six fewer goal involvements than Rodgers this season, while showing significant versatility at full-back and on the wing.

On paper, he ticks too many boxes for Aston Villa to ignore. With competition from Fiorentina, Fulham, Napoli and Atalanta, the Villa Park outfit will need to act quickly when this summer’s transfer window opens.

Should Katamo, and Rodgers in particular, head for the exits, Aston Villa will be a target for their signings in the coming months.
