Leeds could benefit from West Ham relegation due to Somerville clause

Crisencio Somerville joined West Ham United from Leeds United at the start of the season and has recently been linked with top clubs.

According to a report in the Telegraph, the Dutch winger is attracting interest from an unknown club in the Premier League and it is not yet known whether he will make a move in the summer.

Leeds United could receive a cut of West Ham’s profits under the terms of the contract, but it remains to be seen how the situation will develop. West Ham paid around £25 million to sign the player, but Leeds United would need to sell him for a significant profit in order to benefit meaningfully from this clause.

West Ham are fighting for survival in the Premier League, but it remains to be seen whether they will survive. They already lack quality in attack and keeping Somerville at the club would be ideal for them. It seems unlikely that they would sanction his departure.

But if the team slumps at the end of the season, it will be difficult to keep its best players. The former Leeds United attacker would be keen on a move to a Premier League club. He is too good to play in the Championship and if West Ham United were relegated he would not want to remain in the team.

Leeds, on the other hand, are well placed to secure safety in the Premier League this season and must continue to improve their squad to maintain their place in the top flight on a regular basis. It will be interesting to see if they can improve this season by signing the right players in the summer transfer window.
