  • Alisson Becker could leave Liverpool
  • Reds named Martinez to replace Alisson

Liverpool could have a major goalkeeping decision to make this summer, with Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez potentially a target if Alisson Becker leaves Anfield.

The Brazilian has been one of Liverpool’s most influential players since joining from Roma in 2018, but the latest reports suggest Juventus are pushing to bring him to Serie A.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are assessing Martinez as part of their contingency plans and the Reds are aware Alisson is entering the final year of his contract.

Interest from Juventus has made the situation even more tense, with Liverpool not wanting to be caught unprepared if their long-serving number one decides to leave.

Alisson Becker could leave Liverpool

Alisson’s importance to Liverpool cannot be overstated. Since joining the club, he has played a key role in Champions League and Premier League wins, combining elite shot-stopping, calm distribution and leadership from the back.

However, the situation surrounding his future has become more delicate, with talkSPORT reporting that Juventus have made him a key target as Liverpool face pressure to retain experienced players during the team change period.

That’s where Martinez comes in. The Argentina international has built a strong reputation at Aston Villa, not only through his performances in the Premier League, but also through his success with the Argentina national team, including at the 2022 World Cup.

His personality, ability to manage the penalty area and ability to perform under pressure would make him a natural candidate for a club of Liverpool’s size.

From Liverpool’s point of view, Martinez would bring immediate experience rather than a long-term project.

Reds named Martinez to replace Alisson

The 33-year-old won’t be a signing in the distant future, but he could provide the authority and winning mentality needed if Alisson leaves. This could be attractive to a Liverpool side looking to compete at the highest level while managing an extensive rebuild.

Meanwhile, Villa are not expected to let Martinez leave easily. He was one of the players that defined their rise under Unai Emery and losing him would make a huge difference.

Villa are considering Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford as a potential replacement if Martinez leaves, according to reports, suggesting they may already be preparing for a different outcome.
