There is no doubt that Tottenham Hotspur will need to make big changes if they are to maintain their Premier League status and make it to the finish line this season.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi has overseen improvements since replacing Igor Tudor during the March international break, but Monday’s draw with Leeds United was a reminder that Tottenham remain fragile and struggling on home soil. They have not won in the Premier League since Brentford were sent under manager Thomas Frank in early December.

However, there is still a chance that the Lilywhites’ lack of attacking quality will hold them back. That needs to be fixed now, and it certainly needs to be fixed ahead of the new campaign if Spurs are to survive and earn a reprieve on the major stages.

How Spurs squandered their chances against Leeds

James Maddison’s return to the field was an exciting event for the club, players and fans. Despite not being at his best due to a long knee recovery, the England international’s creativity and influence were on display throughout his 21 minutes on the field.

Creativity continues to be the bane of the Spurs’ season. They produced a total of 1.27 xG against Leeds, and Leeds picked on them there. The penalty helped Los Blancos, but a lack of playmaking and waste when the ball went into dangerous areas hampered De Zerbi’s side. Again, this has been an issue all year long.

Expected Goals (xG) is a metric designed to measure the probability that a shot will result in a goal.

Matthijs Tell’s goal was spectacular and, in that respect, more than a brief echo of the blow that shocked Brighton a few weeks ago. Tottenham were once again unable to maintain their advantage on the North 17 and once again fumbled with a golden chance to get some breathing room between them and the Hammers.

It is important to remember that West Ham fans are staring at the goal line with a bleak outlook. Spurs are the favorites to win this race. But changes are definitely needed in the attack this summer, and one perfectly fit member will have to be let go as soon as the final whistle blows in less than two weeks.

Sadly, all the excitement for Tottenham’s new Serge Aurier has disappeared.

Spurs’ new Aurier should not start again

Aurier has had some outstanding performances for Tottenham in the Premier League, but there is no doubt that he left a lot of promise at the club.

Although not similar in position, Randal Kolo-Moouani is becoming a new version of the Ivorian’s unemployed star, who has struggled to make and sustain an impact since joining from Paris Saint-Germain.

He made a shift against Leeds, but it wasn’t enough as he lacked real quality and impact. In this, Kolo Muani is sadly becoming the next version of Aurier at Spurs. Aurier also moved from the French capital and suffered more difficult times than good performances.

In Koro Muani, sometimes things just don’t work out, no matter how hard you try. He was branded “lazy” by journalist Kyle Freegaard after a lackluster performance in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.

The lack of change in attack has given Kolo Muani free reign over Tottenham’s attack in recent weeks, but there is no doubt that the ENIC group is still underperforming.

Perhaps most frustratingly, the French international has elite potential. He joined PSG from Eintracht Frankfurt for £72m but has rarely been a high-scoring player in recent years.

Aurier arrived a long time ago, but shaky defending and inconsistency in his 110 appearances for the club saw him quietly leave the club despite registering 17 assists and showing his skill as a creator.

Now, Kolo Muani will be joining the team as a player who did not perform well at PSG. Even Lucas Moura, who will be remembered as the man behind the great return to the Champions League, had many ups and downs during his stay in London.

Kolo Muani may have created a big chance for Richarlison, but under no circumstances should the Frenchman be given a permanent spot in this Spurs squad next year. It’s something the Lilywhites, and perhaps the players too, should forget.
