Jamie Carragher appointed as advisor to Marine FC
The announcement, made on Wednesday, will see the Champions League winner join the board in an advisory capacity.
Carragher, who lives in Crosby, where the club is based, will draw on his extensive network and decades of high-level football experience to support the club’s strategic growth.
Marine FC CEO James Leary expressed his delight at joining the high-profile team. He said (via Marine FC official website):
“This is a great moment for Marine Football Club. Jamie is a man who genuinely cares about football and the local community. He has kept a close eye on what we have built here over the past few years and his experience and relationships will be a huge help to the club as we continue to move Marine forward over the next few years.”
Marine FC has steadily grown over the years
Carragher’s arrival is the latest milestone in a remarkable five years for the non-league club.
In 2021, they played against Tottenham in the historic third round of the FA Cup, attracting worldwide attention. More than 30,000 virtual tickets were famously sold during the game, which was played without fans due to the pandemic.
Since then, the club’s trajectory has been consistently upward.
Successive promotions: Marine have managed to move up two tiers from Northern Premier League Division One West to National League North in recent seasons.
Stadium expansion: The club recently revealed ambitious plans to build a new 5,000-capacity stadium in Thornton, replacing their historic Rossett Park home.
Consistency on the pitch: In the 2025-26 season, Marine finished 12th in the National League North and reached the semi-finals of the FA Trophy, their best finish in league history.
