Liverpool were heckled last time out at Anfield, but perhaps FSG are starting to realize the scale of the problem at Arne Slott’s side.
For the most part, the opposition to this controversial campaign has come from online circles. That doesn’t invalidate it, but now that the unrest has spilled over into the stadium, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes to maintain faith in their ill-fated head coach and hand him the keys this summer (and next season).
But Slott still believes he is the right man for the job, and who can blame him after winning the Premier League title in style last season?

Either way, Liverpool are in need of change after such a difficult spell, and Mohamed Salah’s impending departure requires an elite right-back, but the Reds could do with an upgrade in Codi Gakpo.
Premier League winger wants move to Liverpool
Yann Diomande and Bradley Barcola have been named as Liverpool’s top targets ahead of the summer transfer window, but whether FSG have the wherewithal or desire to sign either player after spending a whopping £450m last year is another question.
But the need for forwards is huge, compounded by Hugo Ekitike’s ruptured Achilles tendon and Alexander Isak’s problems.
Now, according to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are also interested in signing Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon, despite all the noise coming out of Bayern Munich’s camp.
Gordon, valued at £75m by the Magpies, is one of the Premier League’s top wingers and Arsenal are also interested.
Many variables are involved. Bayern are the most interested, but are only willing to negotiate for £50m. Arsenal are also strong candidates, but the Three Lions winger, who supported the Reds in his youth, is said to want to return to Merseyside and would choose Liverpool over any other suitors.
If the Anfield side can pull this off, they would not only secure an upgrade in Gakpo, but also arguably their best left-winger since the days of Sadio Mane.
Why Gordon could be Liverpool’s new mane
Gordon, 25, has been one of Newcastle’s biggest threats since joining from Everton for £45m in January 2023 and there is a sense he still has the level to scale.
Perhaps a move to Liverpool will see him reach that new standard, emerging as Anfield’s best left-sided forward since Mane wreaked havoc on Klopp’s system, with his pace and natural potential in the danger zone.

In 46 appearances this season, Gordon has scored 17 goals, and while he has certainly had his ups and downs, he has proven his elite potential in recent weeks.
Gordon is focused on achieving more consistent results on the major stage. He is one of the fastest and most threatening wingers in Europe and someone who could emulate Mane’s brilliance on Merseyside.
Mane has scored 120 goals for Liverpool and is undoubtedly one of the best wingers in the history of the division. It’s very fast. I was so furious. Salah brought home more match balls, but the Senegalese’s electric presence on the flanks was unusual, swiftly passing opponents rather than gliding past them and outwitting them with his opposite foot.
Content creator Pete Davey said after the 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in March that Gordon put in “one of the best striker performances I’ve seen from a Newcastle United player in a long time”, and there’s no question he can switch gears and change his skillset, much like Mane did with his great performances under Klopp.
Some may think that Luis Diaz currently has a higher beat than the Englishman, but it would be wise to consider Bayern’s vested interests and what that means for Diaz’s longevity in Vincent Kompany’s attack. Has Gordon been identified as the 29-year-old Colombian’s successor?
We mere mortals can only sit back and watch as the FSG forces decide on the best course of action this summer. Will Slot stay or go?
If the Dutchman were to remain in charge, he would be much better off with someone of Gordon’s ilk challenging Gakpo, with the intelligent Rio Ngmoha on his left flank.
