There is no mistake with a driver that is scarier than a snap hook to the left. A right miss lacks power and ends up floating in the air, but a snap hook is the opposite. It has plenty of speed and keeps running until it hits something. Once a snaphook appears, there’s not much you can do to control it.

I’ve been fortunate to avoid snap hooks (for the most part) for most of my golf career thus far. But when it comes out, you feel helpless. At first glance, changing your swing won’t make any difference.

One of the reasons is that I couldn’t understand what was the cause This snap hook. Luckily, during my Driving Accuracy Bootcamp with GOLF Top 100 Instructor Jason Vail, I learned what causes snap hooks and how to fix them.

Fix the snap hook

If you hit a shot off the beeline from the tee box, the reason is that the club face is closed to the trajectory at impact. There are many reasons for this, but one of the simplest explanations is the manipulation of the clubface through impact. When you do this, the trail arm twists over the lead arm, causing the clubface to point down and to the left after impact.

To combat this, you need to feel like the clubface is pointing straight ahead. above Then immediately after impact, turn left. This will prevent you from manipulating the clubface to close the clubface, which can lead to hooks.

“Whenever you get into the ball and twist, the sweet spot is looking down and to the left,” Jason said. “As it passes, the sweet spot should be up and to the left, because there was no twist to it.”

An easy way to visualize this while practicing is to look at the logo at the top of the grip. When you twist the clubface, the logo also twists to face to the left. However, if you release the clubhead and keep the clubface square (feeling the clubface pointing up and to the left), the logo will remain on the grip.

If you are about to lose the ball to your left, remember that feeling. If you can point the clubface to the upper left, you won’t lose the ball to the left and hit a nasty snap hook.
