Andrea Berta means business at Arsenal, even if his little jostling with Diego Simeone in the Champions League didn’t make it clear.

Despite the possibility of a Premier League and European double, the sporting director has already turned his focus to the summer transfer window.

Now that the Gunners are giving up on their path to the top of English football, it is clear they are looking to make it their new home, starting with the addition of attacking stars.

Arsenal’s £75m bid for Premier League star likely to be accepted

The addition of silverware does not change Arsenal’s biggest weakness. They will come to the annual recruiting conference with the same needs as the past two years.

Ultimately, to solve the problems in that division, they need an attacker who can make a difference in open play.

There are already rumors circulating about a potential move for Julian Alvarez, which could cost more than £100m. He will definitely be in the spotlight this summer. But before that happens, a more familiar option may emerge.

According to TEAMTalk, Arsenal are eyeing the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United and could accept the Magpies’ offer of £75 million for the England international.

There will be something to be said for this, given that Bayern Munich have already had a consistent relationship with summer transfers, but this won’t be the first time a Premier League opponent has outclassed the Bavarian giants.

Reporters say the Bundesliga champions are only willing to accept offers up to the £60m mark this summer, leaving the door ajar for Berta to swoop in.

At £75m Gordon would be a huge upgrade for Leandro Trossard

It’s certainly a brave game to target Trossard after his heroics at West Ham, but that goal doesn’t make the winger untouchable.

The 31-year-old former Brighton man has reached the peak of his powers but will sooner or later face a decline. There are questions Arsenal need to answer as to whether this West Ham goal will be his last.

The harsh reality of Premier League football is that there is always an upgrade somewhere, and for the Gunners that upgrade is Gordon.

The Newcastle star, dubbed England’s “best winger” by former Premier League star Didi Hamann, is the runner Arsenal have desperately needed for some time.

Unlike Trossard, who likes the ball at his feet and the chance to take snap shots, Gordon’s best asset is his ability to run in behind and press hard off the ball. It would instantly add new life to Arsenal’s front line.

Gordon doesn’t pose as much of a scoring threat as Trossard, who has been involved in more goals in the league this season, but he has scored 10 goals in 12 Champions League games, far more than the Belgian’s only goal on the way to the final.

And while Trossard is yet to form a serious partnership with the former Sporting CP star, his effort from possession could unleash the best version of Victor Gokeres.

Next to his current options, the Swede will be holding the ball for players who want it at his feet. It completely goes against the very reason he’s trying to keep the ball.

He needs a runner behind him. Gordon will do just that, making Gokeres’ job much easier in the process.

It’s an old saying that the more runners an attacking team has, the more dangerous it is to move forward. Sometimes the solution is very simple. For Mikel Arteta, the addition of Gordon will mean further overload going forward.

The Arsenal manager would also welcome someone who is safer in possession than Trossard. The Newcastle star has been far more successful at take-ons this season and has lost the ball less often. That’s an impressive record for a player who doesn’t always have the ball at his feet.

£75 million is a steep price, but it is the price a king must pay to keep his crown. Let’s take a look back at Manchester City over the years.
