Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has admitted he was sad when Declan Rice was set to join Arsenal as he felt he was the perfect fit for the Red Devils.

The Portugal international is clearly a huge fan of Rice and has made no secret of the fact that he wishes he had had the chance to play alongside him at Manchester United.

The England international shone at West Ham before joining the Gunners and was linked with a number of big clubs in the Premier League and Europe before his move.

Fernandes and Rice have been among the best players in this season’s Premier League, but it was the United midfielder who was voted in for the FWA award.

In his speech after the win, Fernandes took the opportunity to praise Rice, admitting he felt he was the perfect United player…

“I’ve always said I always thought Rice was the player to play for Man United,” Fernandes said.

“And I was really sad when he chose to go to Arsenal. I didn’t know if he would have a chance to come to Manchester United, but I always thought he would be a good fit for our club.”

Declan Rice will definitely not regret moving to Arsenal

Rice could have ended up at Old Trafford back then, and it’s certainly easy to imagine him being the kind of player he would have developed under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Still, the 27-year-old is on the brink of glory in both the Premier League and Champions League with Arsenal this season, so he probably won’t think too much about whether he should have gone to MUFC instead.

This season has been a better one for United, but they are still a long way from challenging for the biggest trophy again.

However, Fernandes has continued his excellent form and if he can repeat that next season, he will certainly have a chance to regain his place in the squad.
