  • Aston Villa sign Timber in pole position
  • Emery previews ‘special’ Europa League final
        • Aston Villa are currently preparing an initial bid of £26m for Emery’s beloved midfielder

Aston Villa are currently in pole position in the race to sign Quinten Timber from Marseille this summer, with the Dutchman keen on a move to the Premier League.

Aston Villa sign Timber in pole position

The Villans still have everything to play for and look likely to enter next season as a Champions League team by winning the Europa League or finishing in the top five of the Premier League.

Being part of Europe’s elite will undoubtedly take pressure off PSR and open the door for several potential signings, including a versatile midfielder.

Aston Villa are leading the race to sign Timber from Marseille this summer, Sports Boom reports. The midfielder, who is the twin brother of Arsenal’s Julian Timber, is reportedly open to a move to the Premier League and considers England an attractive next step in his career.

His sale will be part of a number of departures at Marseille this summer, as they missed out on Champions League qualification in France and are facing financial difficulties. As a result, the amount they will ask for Timber to be sold in the coming months will be just 30 million euros (about £26 million).

Although this season hasn’t been his best, the 24-year-old Timber still has great potential as a midfield partner like Tielemans. For a bargain price, Villa can unlock that potential and replace Douglas Luiz, who is unlikely to make a full return this summer.

Described as “technically excellent” by Under-23 scout Antonio Mango, Timber could be in line for a chance to play in the Premier League and against his twin brother this summer.

Emery previews ‘special’ Europa League final

Before thinking about summer signings, Aston Villa have the small matter of Wednesday night’s Europa League final. For Unai Emery, it’s a chance to reunite with the trophy he loves to win, but there’s no doubt Freiburg have plans to ruin it.

Looking ahead to Istanbul, the Villa manager told reporters:When I came here, I said my dream and goal was to play in Europe and qualify again, and I’m achieving that. We know that by continuing to compete and be successful, we can connect with our fans.

“We won the European Cup 40 years ago and our fans will experience the Europa League final again, so that excitement and motivation in Istanbul will be special. We are working hard to make sure our fans have fun and hopefully we can bring them joy.”

Off the pitch, securing Champions League qualification will be a priority. But beyond that, I don’t think any of the Aston Villa players are thinking about the financial implications. Instead, they will focus on the chance to make history.
