Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been the dominant duo in men’s tennis for the past three years, winning the last nine men’s Grand Slam singles titles dating back to 2024.

Unfortunately for fans, Alcaraz’s wrist injury means they won’t be able to see the continuation of their budding rivalry over the next two Grand Slam tournaments. Alcaraz, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, He had previously withdrawn from the upcoming French Openwhere he won back-to-back titles. The Spaniard announced on Tuesday that she will also miss Wimbledon later this summer.

My recovery is going well and I am feeling much better, but unfortunately I am not ready to compete yet and will be absent from the grass court swings at Queen’s and Wimbledon. These two tournaments are really special to me and I will miss them very much. We will try our best to come back as soon as possible!

Alcaraz won back-to-back Wimbledon titles in 2023 and 2024, losing to Sinner in 2025. Although he will now miss the grass-court season and hopes of a rematch at the All England Lawn and Tennis Club have waned, his statement gives hope that he can return at the US Open, the final major tournament of the season.

Alcaraz won his first Australian Open title earlier this year, completing a career Grand Slam by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final after the 24-time Grand Slam champion thwarted Sinner’s three-peat attempt in the semifinals. With Alcaraz absent from Roland Garros and Wimbledon, four-time Grand Slam champion Sinner will be the heavy favorite for both events. Winning the French Open would also complete a career Grand Slam, and winning both French Roland Garros and Wimbledon would cut Alcaraz’s overall lead in Grand Slam titles to just one.
