Managers will be leaving Premier League outfits left, right and centre. Will Liverpool follow suit and decide to sack Arne Slott at the end of the season?

To be honest, there are strong grounds for Mr. Slott’s dismissal. Not to diminish his achievements at Anfield, as Slott replaced Jurgen Klopp and confidently won the Premier League in his first year, but this season’s slump has gone beyond the obvious and draws many parallels to the death of Brendan Rodgers a few years ago.

No matter which side of the fence you sit on, this is a dire situation, further fueled by Mohamed Salah’s recent comments. Salah, who quit a year earlier than planned, knows what he’s doing and Liverpool are hurting and cracks are starting to appear.

Something needs to change, but is it the guy in the dugout?

Liverpool considering sacking Arne Slott

Perhaps a clearer picture of how Anfield’s tectonic plates will change will take shape after Liverpool play Brentford on Sunday to end the season.

There is no doubt that a disproportionate number of Liverpool fans want Slott to be sacked, despite his title-winning performance last season.

According to TEAMtalk, FSG leaders are beginning to understand the seriousness of Liverpool’s predicament and the future of the slot is currently under consideration. A shortlist of names has been drawn up, including Julian Nagelsmann, who has been discussed and highlighted behind the scenes. Anfield officials are said to be particularly “admiring” of him.

At 38 years old, Nagelsmann is a young coach, but he has already gained a wealth of experience in his home country and is currently in charge of the German national team.

Nagelsmann is a free-thinking tactician who not only applies German-coded Gegenpressing tactics, but also brings his own control. In that respect, he could be Liverpool’s version of Pep Guardiola.

Why Nagelsmann could be Liverpool’s Guardiola

Goodbye Pep, you and Klopp were truly amazing people. One of the most iconic managerial showdowns in football will feature neither side in the Premier League next season.

Both are irreplaceable and unique managers, but Liverpool may actually secure a Guardiola of their own in Nagelsmann, who has been hailed as “Europe’s youngest manager” by reporter Josh Bunting.

“Barcelona under Guardiola is my role model,” former RB Leipzig manager Nagelsmann said in 2019 of the team’s principles: strength and dominance in possession, intense pressing and deadly finishing.

Liverpool in the slot prefer to keep possession of the ball. In fact, Guardiola’s Manchester City are the only team in this season’s Premier League to have more possession. However, they were not effective and were unable to break down the team or put pressure on the opponent to make mistakes.

But Nagelsmann brings a different kind of ball-playing system to the table. Yes, he wants the ball, but he prefers to dominate and overwhelm his opponents, maintaining high possession rates while moving high up the pitch.

This would allow him to introduce a ‘total football’ style that could reignite Liverpool and get this long-term FSG project back on track.

Adopting a 4-2-3-1 formation, Nagelsmann will also be able to get the best out of the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, reshaping Liverpool’s line-up and charting a path to sustained success against City, where, like Guardiola, the Citizens are filled with silverware.

Although Nagelsmann is young, he has a lot of experience in his home country. He is now ready to take on the Premier League challenge, but perhaps a World Cup season will strengthen his credentials as an elite manager.
