Cristian Romero could leave Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season and is rumored to be linked with a move to Chelsea.

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandes has reportedly held talks with club bosses about his future, and he wants the club to show more ambition in the transfer market. He urged the signing of the 28-year-old Tottenham defender. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can get a deal done.

Simon Phillips revealed on Substack: “According to our sources, we have heard that Fernandes has recently held new talks with the club about a new contract, but nothing has been agreed at this time.

“During these conversations, Fernandes told the club he wanted to sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham and have more top players join them.”

They have conceded 50 goals in the Premier League this season and need to improve defensively. Signing Romero might be a smart move. He is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the Premier League and could make a big difference at Chelsea. He will help them improve at the back next season and help them compete for trophies.

They are in a relegation battle with Tottenham this season, but there is no doubt that they deserve to compete at a higher level. Chelsea may offer him the opportunity he needs.

He has won the World Cup and Copa America with his country and will be aiming to win major club trophies. Tottenham may not be able to help him realize his ambitions and it remains to be seen whether he is prepared to join a rival club.

On the other hand, acquiring a defender won’t come cheap. He will likely command a premium. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be able to convince Tottenham to sell the player.
