Manchester United are considering signing the Real Madrid star in the summer transfer window if incoming manager Jose Mourinho is willing to sign him for cash.
Gary Neville names new additions Manchester United should make this summer
Having secured a return to the Champions League, Man United should be in a strong position to sign some top players this summer, but manager Gary Neville has made it clear they need reinforcements in a number of key areas, which is a good job.
“They definitely need a backup fullback. I would say both teams do that.” the former right-back said.
“In an ideal world they would bring in three defenders. They need one who can play in two positions and support them (like Pierrot Hincapie or Ben White at Arsenal) and then they need another top centre-back and a left-back. I think three defenders would be perfect.”
“In that case they would need two midfielders, but in an ideal world I would think five would be perfect. If they were really greedy they would swap Mason Mount for another forward of some kind.
With Casemiro set to leave the club and the possibility of signing a new central midfielder on the table, the Red Devils have identified several potential targets from within the Premier League.
The Athletic have released a new update on Man United’s midfielder’s signing, claiming that contacts have been made with reports that officials are in a position to sign Aurélien Choameny if Real Madrid declare their intention to make a cash move this summer.
Mourinho is set to return to the Santiago Bernabéu and wants to take charge of Tioameni first, so a deal may not be possible until late in the summer transfer window.
However, the ‘chaos’ at Madrid has hinted at a possible departure, which would be welcome news for United given the level of performance of some of the French players in the Spanish side.
Aurélien Choameny’s main statistics this season
The 26-year-old has been a very important player for Real Madrid this season, making 49 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
Considering he plays from a defensive perspective, the 44-cap France international is primarily used in a defensive midfield role, with his average of 1.6 interceptions in 90 La Liga games the most of any Madrid player.
A versatile player, Choameni can also play as a centre-back if needed and has been praised by manager Carlo Ancelotti for his ability to penetrate the defence.
However, the deal could be very expensive, with a potential fee of £87m previously touted.
