Howard led Dream (14-22) to fifth place in the Eastern Conference rankings. The former Kentucky nation averaged 16.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game at 36.1% shooting from the field and 34.3% over the arc. She was the only newcomer to be nominated for the 2022 All-Star Game. She also made history after she became the sixth rookie to score over 30 points in her first four games.

Howard won 53 votes from 56 votes that may have been obtained from members of WNBA media and broadcasters. Howard is also headlined for the entire reokie team, featuring Narissa Smith, Queen Egbo, Shakira Austin and Rebekah Gardner. Austin received two Roy votes and Smith received one. Howard is the second dream player to win RY after Angel McCourtley received it in 2009.

Howard joined the WNBA after his legendary career in Kentucky. Her accolades have won two first-team national honors and have won freshman awards from the WBCA, USBWA and SEC. Her SEC accolades include winning four All-SEC nominations, including three first-team nods for 2019-2021, and four All-SEC nominations, including all 2020 defensive team nods.
