Artur Geer lost in straight sets to 13th seed Karen Khachanov 6-3, 7-6, 6-0 in the first round of the 2026 French Open on Sunday.

But if the 21-year-old Frenchman is to be believed, he almost lost a lot more in the Suzanne-Lenglen court.

During the first set of his French Open debut, Gere begged the referee to allow him a bathroom break. Usually such breaks are only allowed between sets. However, Geer said he was not feeling well and had an emergency situation that needed to be attended to.

“I really think I’m going to be out,” Gehr was recorded on the broadcast telling the referee. “I can’t wait. I’m not kidding.”

The referee cited the rules and said he could not give Gere the time he needed during this set of matches. While continuing to protest, Gere made his condition clear.

“I’m going to shit on the fucking court,” he said. “Please explain the situation!”

The first round was held in extremely hot conditions, with temperatures reaching 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 degrees Celsius) at Roland Garros.

Asked if he was sick, Gere explained in French that he had diarrhea. That clearly wasn’t enough to convince officials to remove him from the courtroom. Khachanov naturally wanted to know the reason for the delay, but the set resumed.

After the match, Gere was allowed to use the restroom due to “medical circumstances” and went immediately. He was also given medication to treat stomach pain.

After the game, Geer said that he had been sick on Saturday night before the game. But when I woke up in the morning, I started feeling sick.

“It was even worse during the game,” he said via The Associated Press. “I had to go to the bathroom really quickly.”

Geer, ranked 135th in the world, received a wild card invitation to the Grand Slam tournament in his home country. He is from Velleron, France. Although he didn’t win his debut at Roland Garros, his performance will surely be remembered for reasons you won’t want to forget.

The victory advances Khachanov to face Argentina’s Marco Trungetti on Wednesday.
