Liverpool are evaluating all options ahead of the summer transfer window, including Anthony Gordon. The Reds are long-time fans and look set to reignite their interest in the Newcastle United star.
Liverpool plan to make big money bid to sign attacker
Either way, the focus this summer will likely be on rekindling Liverpool’s front line. Mohamed Salah proved his quality one last time at Anfield before bidding farewell to Brentford, but as Arne Slott sat watching from afar, even he would have been thinking about the impossible search for his replacement.
Despite this, the Reds have already begun their search ahead of the summer transfer window, with names like Yann Diomande threatening to steal the headlines.
New Klopp manager at Anfield: Premier League manager ‘hopes’ for Liverpool job
Liverpool’s season is over and the dust has cleared, but uncertainty remains over head coach Arne Slott’s future.
Anfield officials are seriously interested in the RB Leipzig winger, but competition from Paris Saint-Germain could force them to look at familiar alternatives.
According to TeamTalk, Liverpool could accept a £75m offer to sign Gordon from Newcastle this summer. It is no secret that the England international is set to leave St James’ Park in the coming months and is dreaming of becoming a star at Anfield, with interest from Bayern Munich gaining traction.
However, whether Newcastle are willing to negotiate with the Reds is another matter. The pursuit of Alexander Isaac last summer certainly didn’t happen without drama and despite the recording fees they received, it may have left a bitter taste on Tyneside.
rank | player | commission | signatory | year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | alexander isak | £125 million | newcastle | 2025 |
2 | Florian Wirtz | £116 million | bayer leverkusen | 2025 |
3 | virgil van dijk | £75 million | southampton | 2018 |
4 | Hugo Ekitike | £69 million | frankfurt | 2025 |
5 | Alison | £67 million | rome | 2018 |
In terms of quality and price, Gordon is a proven Premier League option and will cost less than Diomand this summer. So if PSG end up demanding the latter, it could be a blessing in disguise.
£75m Gordon transforms Liverpool attack
Slott has a number of issues to solve at Liverpool this summer, but adding another dimension to his forward line should be his top priority. The Reds can complain about how the Premier League has evolved, but without fast, willing runners up front, those complaints will fall on deaf ears.
Whether it’s Kodi Gakpo, Isak, Hugo Ekitike or young Rio Ngmoha, Liverpool’s front line is made up of players who like to play with the ball at their feet. Not having to spin and chase the ball against at least one star player makes it easier for any opponent.
That’s why signing Gordon is so important. He is happy to run in from the back while others prefer his feet to the ball. That’s where his best work is done. Meanwhile, when he is not in possession, he adds much-needed intensity to Liverpool’s pressing.
Gordon, who was described as “clinical” by England manager Thomas Tuchel, has been a Liverpool fan since he was a boy, and his breakthrough at Anfield next season will be a special moment.
