Everton and Aston Villa have been given a big push to sign attacking stars this summer, with the clubs resigned to losing their Premier League ambitions.
Everton and Aston Villa battle for La Liga winger
Aston Villa can breathe a sigh of relief now that they have qualified for the Champions League and look ahead to what could be a busy summer of signings.
The PSR issue hasn’t been completely resolved, but the Villains should at least have the license to bring in Unai Emery as a fresh player for the right price.
Aston Villa are also targeting the £85,000-a-week England international after Trafford.
Villa want to sign a player that is “absolutely unrealistic”.
As for Everton, they have their own ambitions. The Toffees are not close to qualifying for Europe this season and will be hoping to use the transfer window to bridge the gap.
It’s always a good sign when their transfer ambitions are in line with a team like Villa, and it could mean both clubs enter into an expensive battle for the La Liga star.
According to TeamTalk, Real Betis fear they will have to sell Abde Ezarzouri this summer amid growing interest from both Aston Villa and Everton, with Newcastle also among the clubs linked to trigger his €60 million release clause.
The Spanish club fully expects to lose the talented winger in the coming months, with City Football Group also eyeing a big-money move.
Ezarzurri, once a treasure at Barcelona, is finally fulfilling his potential at Real Betis. This season alone, the 24-year-old has contributed to 28 goals in all competitions and will be Everton’s main talisman.
It remains to be seen whether the Toffees are willing to pay a record amount for the winger. The numbers certainly suggest he’s worth the money.
Ezarzuli has been likened to Kvaratsheria.
The reason why Aston Villa are targeting Ezarzurri is precisely why they had to secure Champions League football. This should put them in a much stronger position to fend off competition from Everton and ultimately sign a consistent goal-scoring winger on a permanent basis.
With the Premier League also placing an emphasis on pragmatism, players like Ezarzurri will stand out quickly. Como scout Ben Mattinson even compared the winger to Hviča Kvaratschelia, and looking at the numbers it’s easy to see why.
Kvaratschelia (44) has had just five more take-ons than Ezarzurri (39) this season.
The Betis man has a long way to go before he can fully match the PSG star, but everyone can see the potential. If Villa have money to spend this summer, they should not hesitate to trigger the winger’s release clause.
As for Everton, they may be forced to sit out after failing to qualify for European football this season.
