Liverpool appear to be paying close attention to the possibility of a transfer for Club Brugge centerback Joel Ordonez, who they have been eyeing for some time.

We previously reported here that Liverpool were interested in Ordonez, but at the time it was reported that their interest had waned and that Newcastle United were likely to be suitors.

However, things are changing rapidly in the football transfer market, and the Reds are in need of a replacement for Ibrahima Konate, who left the club when his contract expired.

According to TEAMtalk, this means that Liverpool are once again considering Ordonez as one of their top targets to join manager Andoni Iraola, who is in the process of replacing Arne Slott.

Will Joel Ordonez help fix Liverpool’s defense?

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Ordonez has impressed a number of top Premier League clubs and it certainly makes a lot of sense for Liverpool to prioritize him now.

The talented 22-year-old really impressed during his time in the Belgian top flight, but of course coming to a top English club would be a big step up for him.

However, as Konate’s departure also follows the declining form of the aging Virgil van Dijk, LFC may do well to make several defensive signings this summer.

Ordonez could be brought in with a longer-term view, but there could also be room for the Merseyside giants to bring in another, more experienced defender alongside him.

It’s still early in the season, having only ended last week, but Liverpool’s transfer plans seem to be starting to come together, and Ordonez could be a good option for them.
