  • Newcastle United decide on Wissa’s future
  • Magpie must be regretting making a deal with Wisa.

Newcastle United are reportedly ready to part ways with Yoan Ouissa this summer, and honestly it feels like a decision is getting closer.

According to Football Insider, the Magpies want to free the striker’s wages before moving forward with signing a more attacking player.

Newcastle are expected to let the player leave for around £15 million, which would represent a significant loss on their initial investment.

Wissa arrived at Newcastle from Brentford in September 2025 after a long transfer chase.

Brentford had previously rejected a £40m bid from Newcastle, but a move was eventually made possible in deadline time.

Newcastle United decide on Wissa’s future

Transfermarkt’s contract with Newcastle runs until June 2029, so this does not simply mean the player is reaching the end of his contract. Newcastle will choose to cut their losses aggressively.

The problem is that this move didn’t go as planned. Wissa has had a fantastic spell at Brentford, scoring 19 Premier League goals in the 2024-25 season and 45 league goals in his entire Brentford career, and looked like a proven Premier League forward.

However, things were very different in Newcastle. ESPN reports that he has only one goal and one assist in 19 Premier League appearances in the 2025/26 season, with only four of those being starts.

Magpie must be regretting making a deal with Wisa.

This is a huge drop and explains Newcastle’s mindset.

Eddie Howe’s side need more firepower, especially after a disappointing campaign, and there is little point in keeping an expensive forward who is not central to their plans.

Football Insider also claim that the £70m sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona has increased Newcastle’s budget, with much of that expected to be returned to the team.

Selling Wissa would be tough but wise. He’s not a bad player, but Newcastle signed him at the wrong time and probably for the wrong price.

The 29-year-old will need regular football, but Newcastle need a striker who can truly lead the line and push the attack to another level.
