Tottenham Hotspur aim to strengthen their defensive line with the signing of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton this summer.
According to a report from Voetbal International, the two clubs are currently in talks over a possible transfer, with Tottenham reportedly making a serious offer for the 25-year-old.
The defender would be tempted by the idea of a move to a big club, with moves to Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool also linked. Liverpool are reportedly already in talks with his agent about a possible move. However, Tottenham made a serious offer for the player, snatching him away from their rivals.
His contract with Brighton expires in 2027, so Brighton will be under pressure to sell him this summer. They don’t want to lose this player for nothing next year.
Tottenham need more quality in their defensive unit and are currently in pole position to make a deal. The Dutch national team defender has the quality to contribute to the team’s growth. He has proven his ability in the Premier League and will only improve with coaching and experience.
Cristian Romero has been linked with a move from Tottenham and they need to properly replace him. The Brighton defender could form a strong partnership with compatriot Micky van de Ven at Tottenham if the move goes through.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can secure an agreement with Brighton in the coming days. The team needs to improve if they want to bounce back strongly from a disappointing season. They were in a relegation battle and they don’t want to be in the same position next year. A high-quality defender will tighten up the team’s back line and contribute to their growth next season.
