  • Barcelona have already signed Gordon this summer.
  • Manchester United must find a solution for Rashford’s future

Manchester United now appear open to talks with Barcelona over Marcus Rashford, which could be the clearest sign yet that both sides want a clean solution this summer.

According to Sport, United are no longer insisting that Barcelona fully activate the €30m permanent option in Rashford’s loan deal and are now open to discussing a different sum.

Rashford’s future remains uncertain. His loan period at Barcelona runs until mid-June, with the Catalan club having a €30 million option to sign him permanently.

This clause was agreed when he joined Barça on loan from United for the 2025/26 season.

The problem is that Barcelona are not in a position to spend money freely.

Barcelona have already signed Gordon this summer.

They have already signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle, with Reuters reporting the deal is worth an initial €80 million plus add-ons.

This move naturally raises the question of whether Barca need Rashford enough to pay him his full contract fee.

Rashford, on the other hand, appears to want to remain in Spain. The Guardian reports that he wants to remain in Catalonia after a lucrative loan spell in which he helped Barcelona win La Liga.

He scored an important goal in the title decider against Real Madrid and finished the league season with eight goals and nine assists.

Manchester United must find a solution for Rashford’s future

From Manchester United’s point of view, this is realistic. Rashford returning to Old Trafford won’t help anyone if he’s not part of the long-term plans.

His wages are also a big issue, with reports saying they are around £325,000 a week.

Barcelona are reportedly willing to pay far less than the full option, with some claiming they could offer around half of the agreed amount.

United are doing the right thing by softening their stance. Keeping €30m sounds strong, but if Barcelona pull out, United will be left with an expensive player they clearly want to move on.

A settlement is not perfect, but it may be the wisest outcome. Rashford got the transfer he wanted, Barcelona kept a player who had already adapted, and United finally ended a long-running chapter.
