2026 French Open results, winner: Mira Andreeva wins first Grand Slam title

The 2026 French Open has been characterized by surprises, but Saturday’s women’s final was dominated by favorites after two weeks filled with shocking upsets. Eighth-seeded Mila Andreeva defeated Maja Chwalinska on Court Philippe Chartelier, winning in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) and winning the first Grand Slam title of her young career.

Both players seemed to be feeling the weight of the moment early in the match, with the wind howling around Roland Garros, sloppy tennis from both teams and multiple early breaks. But it was the 19-year-old who settled first and asserted his dominance. Andreeva was able to sway the points, constantly pushing Chwarinska and dominating her opponents with a combination of power and movement.

Chwarinska showed some effort early in the match, but didn’t have the gear to keep up with Andreeva throughout the match. The Paris crowd tried to urge her to make this match even more of a thriller, but Andreeva was simply too good on the day, dominating the 24-year-old from Poland in the second set on her way to the title.

Andreeva produced 25 winners against 26 unforced errors, and played quality tennis that required Czwarinska to match her best. Chwarinska, on the other hand, had 29 unforced errors and only 10 winners, which is clearly not the formula for pulling off a major upset. After a slow start, the young Russian showed solidity on his serve and then consistently poked at his Polish opponent’s serve and asked questions that Czwalinsa simply couldn’t answer.

In this match, Andreeva scored an incredible 34 out of 54 points on Chwalinska’s serve and closed out the match by breaking Chwalinska at love in the final game of the match to seal the victory.

Andreeva’s victory makes her the sixth consecutive Grand Slam champion and continues an incredible run in women’s tennis over the past two years. The 19-year-old is the 12th female teenage winner at Roland Garros and fully confirmed her status as one of the sport’s rising stars with her first Grand Slam title.
