Memorial Tournament Golf: Bettors flock to Scottie Scheffler as he looks for third straight title

The penultimate of this year’s eight field-only, big-money signature events on the PGA Tour is this week’s Memorial Tournament, the Jack Nicklaus event that starts Thursday at Muirfield Village outside Columbus, Ohio. No player has won the same tour event three years in a row since 2011, but Scottie Scheffler’s performance on Sunday could end that drought.

Fans who want to bet on golf futures need to see the latest information FanDuel Promo Code.

The world number one, as always, comes at a hefty price to win and is currently +310 on DraftKings, next up is Rory McIlroy in second place at +1050. In 2024, Scheffler finished with an eight-under 280, one spot behind Collin Morikawa, but last year the American shot a 10-under 278, four spots ahead of Ben Griffin. Schaeffler won the 2025 tournament on the 17th by just two points. He found the fairway on the hole and made par, but Griffin placed it far left and ended up with double bogey.

Two years ago, Scheffler and Morikawa went head-to-head throughout the back nine, and the battle lasted until the 72nd hole. Incidentally, Morikawa is the only one among the world’s top 10 who will not play this week due to injury. He won the 2020 Workday Charity Open at this course.

This week Scheffler is aiming to become the first player since Steve Stricker at the John Deere Classic from 2009 to 2011 to complete a three-peat in the tournament, joining Tiger Woods (six) and Stuart Appleby as the fourth player to do so in the past 40 years. Scheffler and Woods are the only repeat players here, and the only three-time winners of the event are Tiger (five) and Kenny Perry (three). Scheffler’s last attempt at a three-peat came at the 2025 Players Championship, after he became the first player in tournament history to win back-to-back titles. But he completed the T-20 in 2025.

In the top five alone, Schaeffler is -154, which is also an exorbitant price, with an over/under of 4.5 for the final position. However, he was third in 2023 and 2021, making him the first golfer to finish in the top three in four consecutive tournaments at Memorial (he did not compete in 2022). Scheffler was also the only golfer to finish in the top three at a PGA Tour event four times from 2021-2025.

Scheffler’s average score of 70.4 in this event is the highest score ever when playing a minimum of 20 rounds. Scheffler has increased his tee-to-green strokes by 12.26 in his past three starts at Memorial, the most by any golfer in any tournament during that span. At BetMGM, Scheffler wins by far with the most handles (32.1%) and tickets (14.3%). He is also the player with the highest stakes for a top-five finish.

There will be 72 players, and the top 50 will be determined in 36 holes. Scheffler will depart Thursday at 1:35 p.m. ET with reigning PGA Championship winner Aaron Rye of Great Britain, but due to the small size of the field, the event will be played in pairs instead of three. Scheffler has a PGA Tour-best 75 consecutive cuts and has four top-three finishes in his past five starts, but he hasn’t won on tour since January. Scheffler has competed at Memorial in each of the past four seasons and has had multiple wins. He has made 75 consecutive cuts, the longest active streak on tour.

A lead after Round 1 and a win would put Scheffler at +1550. Remarkably, the 18-hole leader has never won the Memorial Tournament, and the only player to lead after each of the first three rounds was Fuzzy Zoller in 1989, who finished second.

The Nicklaus-designed Muirfield Village Golf Club is a 7,569-yard par 72 and has been hosted annually since 1976. Muirfield Village had the highest average par score (+1.38) among non-major courses last season. Just play against the Americans to win at -175.

An American athlete has won here every year since 2015, except for 2020 (Jon Rahm) and 2023 (Viktor Hovland), but neither champion is in this week’s field. McIlroy (+1050) has played and started 13 games at Memorial, the most in any contest without a win in his career. He wins the second-highest percentage of tickets and handles (both 8.0%).

Cameron Young (+1475) is third in both with 7.4% of bets and 5.0% of bankrolls. McIlroy is a +850 favorite to win without the Scheffler prop and has the most action at BetMGM to be the first-round leader at +1600. At +1400 in wins without the Scheffler prop, Young has the most bets and the second-most winnings.
