NEW YORK – Roger Federer returns to the Grand Slam this year with an exhibition appearance at the U.S. Open, the only player to win five consecutive tournaments.

Federer will play in New York on August 25, just days before his induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The event, titled “Roger Federer: The Icon’s Return to New York,” will also include Andy Roddick, John McEnroe and Andre Agassi. The United States Tennis Association made the announcement on Monday.

Roddick won the 2003 US Open, the year before Federer began dominating the tournament. He won all of his 20 Grand Slam singles titles from 2004 to 2008.

Federer last played in the US Open in 2019.

“Many unforgettable moments in my career have happened in New York, and Arthur Ashe Stadium means a lot to me,” he said in a statement. “I miss being a part of that atmosphere and feeling the incredible energy that the fans bring every year.”

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for August 29th in Newport, Rhode Island.

The USTA said there will be further announcements regarding the event lineup in the week before the tournament’s singles matches begin.
