Arsenal make contact to sign high-profile midfielder Sandro Tonali

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided a comprehensive update on Newcastle’s race to sign the engine on his YouTube channel.

Manchester United had been linked with a move for Tonali for some time, but Romano revealed that the Red Devils were “cold” about the deal due to the huge financial commitment involved and instead opted to finalize a deal with Atalanta’s Ederson Silva.

This financial hesitation from Old Trafford opened the door for other potential players. Romano revealed that Arsenal have officially come on board and have started making contact in recent days.

But it’s not just the Gunners, Manchester City are also monitoring Tonali, although Nottingham Forest’s Elliott Anderson remains a priority. Newcastle are expected to demand more than £100m for their prized asset.

Fabrizio Romano said:

“There were a lot of questions about Manchester United and Sandro Tonali. You may remember back in April and May there were reports linking both Ederson and Tonali to United. We can now give you an update on both.”

“In regards to Ederson, it was United’s decision and they decided to sign him.

“While Sandro Tonali remains highly rated, it is my understanding that he is not particularly close to a move to Manchester United at the moment. United are indifferent to this deal at the moment as the overall cost, including both transfer fees and wages, is considered too high at this stage.”

“Tonali could be an option for Manchester City, but their current focus is on Elliott Anderson, a player United also rate highly and are still monitoring the situation.”

“Aside from these two clubs, Arsenal have also made calls regarding Tonali in recent days and they are also on the list. The situation surrounding Sandro Tonali could get very interesting as more clubs could join the race.”

How Sandro Tonali will improve Premier League champions Arsenal

Tonali’s move would be a major statement for Arsenal after a title-winning season.

His ability to control the tempo, break up opposition attacks and advance the ball while under pressure will greatly ease the burden on Declan Rice and allow Arsenal to build one of the deepest midfield units in Europe.

Tonali’s future will be one of the hottest stories of the summer as the transfer market heats up.
