Manchester United are currently optimistic about signing him for a target of £100m this summer, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe already giving him the green light.

Manchester United are preparing to spend big on star signings

The Red Devils have already signed Ederson from Atalanta and are looking to start their summer business. In a deal worth £40m, the Brazilian will begin the rebuilding of Man United’s midfield.

However, several other names are still on the table. Matheus Fernandes remains a player to watch at West Ham United. It seems very unlikely that he will spend a season in the Championship, but the Hammers’ asking price of £85m certainly complicates matters to say the least.

Manchester United plan £369,000-a-week move as he considers joining Newcastle

The Red Devils want to sign a striker.

From United’s point of view, a move for the Portuguese star will only become a priority if they miss out on other targets such as Elliott Anderson this summer.

The Nottingham Forest midfielder has reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Manchester City, but the Red Devils are still optimistic they can lure him to Old Trafford.

According to the Guardian, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has approved Anderson’s wage demands and is prepared to give the England star £150,000 a week despite his “intent to cut costs”.

This is on top of the £100m transfer fee demanded by Nottingham Forest, making Anderson one of the richest signings in Man United’s history. But for the Old Trafford bosses, it’s a price worth paying.

Why Manchester United are right to go all out to sign Anderson

When it comes to transformative signings, Anderson is at the top of the list this summer. The Nottingham Forest midfielder is exactly the profile of a player Man United need. He will take them from top-four favorites to a guaranteed top-four team and push them into the Premier League title race.

No outfield player in Europe’s top five leagues recovered more balls last season, but only nine players made more tackles. Outside of possession, there is a strong argument that Anderson is the best midfielder the Premier League has to offer.

Man United have spent too much money unnecessarily in the past, but Nottingham Forest’s star will not join their long list of failures. He will be a great addition.
