Newcastle and Everton interested in Parma striker Matteo Pellegrino
According to a report from Sport Parma, the Argentine attacker has officially been targeted by several clubs in the Premier League and Serie A.
From England, there has been specific interest from Newcastle United, Everton and Brentford, all of whom have the striker on their summer transfer shortlist.
British suitors are reportedly attracted to Pellegrino’s physical profile, youth and high ceiling for future development. His physical attributes are perfect for the fast-paced nature of the Premier League.
Previously, Spurs were also linked with Pellegrino.
Parma CEO Federico Cherubini recently addressed the growing speculation, saying (as quoted in the report): “We know there is a lot of interest, but we are in no hurry.”
Cherubini’s stance could spark a highly lucrative bidding war for the Italian club’s coffers. However, Parma will only keep half of the proceeds as 50% of the sale clause is owed to the striker’s former club Velez Sarsfield.
The report adds that while Italian clubs such as Bologna, Como and Fiorentina are also challenging, Parma’s €30m valuation remains a major hurdle for Serie A sides, giving financially sound Premier League sides a clear advantage in negotiations.
Pellegrino’s scoring statistics
The 24-year-old forward has been the subject of intense transfer speculation following his highly impressive form in Italy.
Pellegrino established himself as the focal point of Parma’s attack, leading from the front with both consistency and durability.
