Tottenham Hotspur finished the season with a clear goal in mind: to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s squad and remove any fear of the Premier League drop zone once and for all.
There are mitigating circumstances, but the truth is that a club of Spurs’ stature and potential shouldn’t be in a relegation battle, as they don’t have as many resources and a squad filled with talented players.
But such is the reality of the Londoners’ situation, which has clearly been hampered by the loss of several key attacking players in recent years. Son Heung-min and Harry Kane are both long gone, but their goals narrowly missed.

Tottenham’s lack of attacking threat has been one of their biggest problems this season, and one of the main factors behind their slide into the relegation zone.
It goes without saying that it’s important to sign impactful upgrades before a new campaign.
Spurs join England squad
Randal Kolo Muani’s tough loan spell at Tottenham is over and De Zerbi is a big fan of Dominic Solanke, but Richarlison and Matthijs Tell are far from content in their seats at Spurs.
ENIC are making progress on signing Savinho from Manchester City, who started just seven Premier League games under manager Josep Guardiola this season. His speed and initiative on the flanks will be a big influence in De Zerbi’s system.
James Maddison’s return from injury brings hope to Tottenham’s creative set-up, but they need an out-and-out forward to target him, and Sabinho is an exciting presence, having scored two goals in two seasons in the Premier League.
Tottenham could swoop in for the England star given Barcelona are not interested in triggering Marcus Rashford’s £26m buy option, with the Daily Mail revealing they are interested in bringing the Manchester United winger back to the Premier League.
The 28-year-old’s £315,000-a-week wage is against him, but if Spurs can create a softer wage structure, they could sign a sharp and destructive attacker who can help De Zerbi’s side get back to the ascendancy.
Why Rashford will succeed at Spurs
Rashford is a La Liga champion. Since joining Barcelona on loan last year, he has reached the peak of his powers, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists in all competitions, earning him praise from England teammate Anthony Gordon as “one of the best players in the world”.
However, Rashford now faces a conundrum as Barcelona have signed Anthony Gordon, who is three years his junior, for £69m. Where will he end up? Will Old Trafford be the right move for him, or will it be the opposite for him as he looks to maintain his form at the peak of his career?
At Spurs, the experienced winger could be reborn as a Premier League superstar. After all, he has performed well in his home country so far, twice hitting 17 goals in a season since the start of the ’20s.
If Maddison steps up a gear, Tottenham could find the right balance in the build-up, especially with an incisive forward like Rashford directing the attacking play.

After all, Maddison is regarded as one of the Premier League’s most astute creators, but his play has sadly been hampered by injuries in recent years. Still, he has the potential to develop, especially when paired with Rashford and, more importantly, in the center with the physically fit and fully fit Solanke.
The English pair have a chance to put this Spurs project back in the spotlight and while signings such as Savinho will help lift the squad, Rashford will bring the necessary X-factor to De Zerbi’s system and Maddison will know how to unlock it.
