American Ben James shot a 63 in the second round to lead the Canadian Open at the halfway point with a 36-hole score of 10 under.

The 23-year-old just completed his senior season at the University of Virginia and is riding an incredible momentum. James, who earned his tour card as No. 1 in the PGA Tour University Rankings, made his professional debut at the RBC Canadian Open and qualified for his third U.S. Open this Monday, leading the tournament by one stroke.

“I wasn’t thinking about the actual outcome at all this week,” James said after the round. “I’m just worried about getting comfortable, making new friends and having fun, and seeing how everything goes. Just seeing how my game stacks up. Obviously, I have some things to work on, but I’m just trying to see how everything goes. This is just a baseline, so this is my first pro debut. It’s been a great two days, of course, but I’m just trying to improve.”

Getting a W in your first event as a pro will be no easy task, especially considering the number of players nearby. There are 17 players within three strokes of his lead, including Sam Barnes (-9), Brooks Koepka (-8) and Saheth Segala (-7).
