Liverpool in talks to sign ‘young Mane’ for £43m

The 19-year-old has had a rocky start to his life in the Bundesliga, joining RB Leipzig from Spanish side Leganes. Across all competitions, he has scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists, and there is no doubt that he has enough boyish greed to replace Mohamed Salah, who has been very poor this season.

Arne Slott hasn’t left Anfield in a good place after two miserable seasons, although he has done enough to secure the Reds a return to the Champions League. Change is needed over the summer and Diomande alone is unlikely to solve the Merseyside side’s attacking problems.

Sadly, efforts to sign Michael Olise from Bayern Munich proved to be in vain, and although Diomande could be the perfect replacement for Salah on the right-wing, the uncertainty surrounding Kodi Gakpo, and the need for more depth anyway, could see FSG make another push towards Germany.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are leading Manchester United in the race to sign Bazamanou Toure from Hoffenheim this summer, with the 20-year-old winger valued at £43 million.

The fact that Hoffenheim are preparing for a huge bid this summer speaks volumes about their stance. Toure isn’t keen on leaving just yet, but given Liverpool’s advantage in this race and his relatively affordable price tag, this could be the deal that FSG strikes alongside Diomand.

Why Toure could be like Diomande for Liverpool

Toure, like his Ivorian teammate Diomande, has superstar potential and has already been hailed as “one of the most exciting young wingers in European football” by journalist Bence Boksak.

He’s not all that relentless in his running and dueling, but that doesn’t mean he’s inefficient, and he’s probably smarter at seizing the moment and using his explosive power.

Perhaps that’s why reporter Bence Boksak described him as a “young Sadio Mane”. He is very fast and ferocious, running down the flanks with almost no fear and outmaneuvering stout defenders.

The left-sided forward has played in 30 Bundesliga games this season, scoring five goals and providing nine assists, creating 11 big chances and winning an average of more than five duels per game.

Toure is young, but like Diomande, he has proven that he can play at the highest level, making him an increasingly important part of the Bundesliga side’s plans this season.

The important thing is that he has the qualities to be a clinical forward. He has only scored five goals in the league, but has also missed just three big chances, and speaks of a clinical edge that could rival Diomande’s influence and bring a bit of Mane-like flair to Anfield.

With the two Ivorian wingers wreaking havoc on Liverpool’s attacking front, Iraola will have the high-octane energy needed to make the system tick. These deals could bring Liverpool back to the forefront, reinstating Florian Wirtz as the club’s leading playmaker and rekindling world-class goalscorer Alexander Isak.

Liverpool may not be able to afford another poor season, but a deal like this would give Iraola all the tools he needs to lead the Merseyside side back into title contention and regain their place.
