  • Marcus Rashford prefers staying at United over Premier League rivals
  • Manchester United have no plans for Rashford to return

England forward Marcus Rashford is undoubtedly focused on the World Cup as he prepares to face Croatia in the opening game in the United States. Upon returning from the Americas, he must deal with his future, which is still shrouded in uncertainty.

The 28-year-old would have been unaware that Barcelona had allowed his €30 million buyout option to expire, meaning he was set to start pre-season at Old Trafford. Rashford wants to stay at Barcelona and manager Hansi Flick was reportedly keen on him staying, but the Blaugrana appear to be less confident in signing him after signing Anthony Gordon. Still, Rashford is not considered a priority, although they have not yet completely ruled out the possibility.

The Athletic reports that Rashford would prefer to remain at Manchester United this summer rather than join another Premier League side. What he currently has is He has a £40m release clause that can be triggered by any team apart from Liverpool and Manchester City, and other Premier League teams have expressed an interest in him, with former loan team Aston Villa showing an interest in him on a number of occasions since then. Rashford has two years left on his contract with United, and although it was thought he would leave again this summer, it has now been suggested for the first time that he may remain at the club.

Despite this, Rashford is not on the agenda at Old Trafford. According to the MEN, manager Michael Carrick was keen to have Rashford back, but after discussions with senior management there are no plans to bring him back into the squad. Manchester United appear to be aiming to sell Rashford permanently, whether or not he moves to Barcelona.
